Today's viruses and
spyware proliferate more rapidly than ever, so it is vitally important
to get the updates out to every endpoint as rapidly as possible.
Because SonicWALL virus definitions are updated automatically, the
updates can start protecting your computers immediately—as soon as
they are made available. Working in conjunction with your SonicWALL
network security appliance, the Enforced Client guarantees that all
endpoints have the latest versions of anti-virus and anti-spyware
software installed and active. Along with SonicWALL's gateway and
server protection, SonicWALL endpoint security keeps your network free
from dangerous viruses and spyware.
Industry-Leading
Solutions
SonicWALL, in
partnership with McAfee, the leader in business anti-virus solutions,
brings you two anti-virus services to protect every endpoint in your
company against the most sophisticated virus threats, dangerous spyware,
and productivity-draining adware.
This service
automatically enforces anti-virus and anti-spyware policies on every
client, reducing administrative overhead. It provides the combination of
client-based scanning and mitigation capabilities with Web-based
management and reporting capabilities.
This service offering
combines the SonicWALL Enforced Client service with server-based
anti-virus protection, with the addition of McAfee's VirusScan
Enterprise for Windows and GroupShield for Exchange anti-virus
protection for Windows-based File, Print, and Exchange servers.
Multi-Layered Approach
SonicWALL takes a
multi-layered approach that addresses each point of vulnerability in a
network. The endpoint solutions are one important part of an overall
solution that includes Gateway Anti-virus, Anti-Spyware and Intrusion
Prevention Service. This gateway service protects the perimeter—serving
as one more layer of protection in the defence against viruses and
spyware. Servers must also be protected, as they exchange data with
outside sources and function as the central focus point in the
network—and once infected could easily spread that infection to hundreds
of endpoints. Server protection is delivered through the SonicWALL
Client/Server Anti-Virus Suite.
Using a layered
approach, the majority of threats can be caught before they have a
chance to infect individual endpoint machines. But even with the best
perimeter and server protection, malware may still penetrate these
defences—regardless of how thorough those defences may be. In fact, a
large number of malware threats do not come in from the outside, but
bypass perimeter protection entirely. For example, an employee or
outside contractor may plug their notebook into the network, which
unknown to them, is infected with a virus because it does not have the
most recent update of anti-virus software. With the last line of defence—endpoint
security delivered through the SonicWALL Enforced Client Anti-Virus and
Anti-Spyware engine, this final vulnerability is eliminated.
Enforced Approach to
Security
While IT staff may be
diligent about protecting gateways and servers, protecting every
individual endpoint, especially in a widely dispersed company, isn't
always as easy. SonicWALL's endpoint security and the "enforced"
approach solve this problem. Enforcement means that the SonicWALL
security appliance verifies that all endpoints are running SonicWALL
Anti-Virus with the latest virus and spyware signature files. Clients
that are not in compliance are redirected to automatically download
updates, and Internet access is blocked until the client becomes
compliant with the anti-virus policy. Integrated desktop firewall
capability provides an additional layer of firewall protection, which
blocks unwanted Internet access to or from the computer.
Flexible Deployment
Options
SonicWALL's Endpoint
Security products are now also capable of being deployed in a
stand-alone mode. This is a non-enforced deployment configuration that
allows customers to deploy Enforced Client Anti-Virus without an
associated UTM device. Now non-SonicWALL UTM users can protect their
desktops from the latest Internet threats with regular updates of virus
and spyware signatures delivered directly to the desktop, without the
need of replacing their current UTM appliance. The stand-alone client is
deployed and managed via SonicWALL's MySonicWALL.com Web portal instead
of from the UTM appliance management interface.
Reporting
Compliance with both
internal policies and potential regulations requires another step beyond
protection; it requires visibility and reporting. SonicWALL's
comprehensive Web-based reporting generates easy-to-understand data that
delivers a real-time and historical look at the network and individual
users, and the entire anti-virus and anti-spyware environment. Reports
can be generated on a pre-scheduled or on-demand basis, and can be
accessed through the SonicWALL network security appliance's Web
interface
